Most residents of Agerhusene, a Balder property in Høje Taastrup, know who Kjartan Pálsson is. He is always happy to help, whether it’s repairing children’s bicycles, helping with gardening, fixing cars, or taking care of countless other practical tasks.

Balder Neighbour of the Quarter, Q2 2026: 80-year-old Kjartan Pálsson, who lives at Balder's Agerhusene property in Høje Taastrup.
“Helping others comes naturally to me. It’s simply who I am.”
These are the words of 80-year-old Kjartan Pálsson, the newly named Balder’s Neighbour of the Quarter, who has lived in a ground-floor apartment at Agerhusene since 2020.
Over the years, he has helped countless neighbours with practical tasks. There is hardly anything the helpful Icelandic-born resident won’t assist with, often without even being asked.
“I stay active by helping other people. I can’t sit still, and whenever someone needs help, I feel it’s my duty to step in. The other day I noticed a car with a flat tire in our parking lot, so I left a note on the windscreen telling the owner to contact me when she gets back from holiday. I’ll be happy to help change the tire,” he says.
Kjartan lives by the motto: “There are no problems, only solutions.” It is an approach he brings to everything he does for others. He tackles challenges with a solution-oriented mindset and a generous heart, something his neighbours have certainly noticed.
“Kjartan is the best neighbour anyone could ask for. He’s always smiling and incredibly helpful to everyone. He repairs bicycles, helps with all kinds of practical tasks, and is wonderful with the children who live here. He truly deserves all the best,” says his neighbour Therese, who nominated him for the award.
Bicycles are one of Kjartan’s greatest passions. He is always ready to help the children at the property get their bikes repaired and ready to ride.
It is not only the residents of Agerhusene who benefit from Kjartan’s kindness. He is also deeply committed to providing bicycles for Ukrainian refugees living in Denmark.
“I repair used bicycles and donate them to Ukrainians. They need them in their everyday lives, so if I can help, I’m more than happy to do so. I also collect donated items, such as used toys from my neighbours, and pass them on to Ukrainian families.”
Kjartan says that helping others runs in the family. His daughter, two grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even his ex-wife all live at Agerhusene, and they too experience his generosity and willingness to help in everyday life.
Everyone at Balder congratulates Kjartan on this well-deserved award.
