Balder creates joy and community with yard concerts

In order to spread joy and create a sense of community in these strange times Balder organized a series of intimate courtyard concerts for the residents in Ørestad with the singer Athina. It has generated great enthusiasm among the residents. The first concert took place on the 1st of May in Balder’s property Fælledkanten, located in Ørestad.

In the middle of the courtyard in Fælledkanten, surrounded by a luminous heart, the singer Athina sings for all the residents who have come out on their balconies to enjoy the concert. Her beautiful voice fills the courtyard, making the residents sway to the music and cheer with their neighbors. The concert has caught the attention of TV 2 Lorry, who also joined to broadcast live from here.

The courtyard concert in Fælledkanten, was one out of three concerts organized for the residents by Balder. The other concerts were held on the properties, Lavetten and Elsehus, both located in Ørestad. The CEO of Balder, Flemming Joseph Jensen, says that the idea behind the concerts is to do something good for the residents in a time that for many of us is different and can be a bit lonely.

“Many of our residents spend a lot of time inside and are isolated from the people around them, and we saw an opportunity to do something special for them. Yard concerts were an obvious way to create a unique experience for the residents that could be enjoyed from their own home. We focus on community-promoting initiatives as we know it creates a lot of value for the residents,” he says.

A sense of community and togetherness

A lot of the residents found the concerts to be positive – one of them is Anitta Sørensen, who lives in Fælledkanten with her husband.

”I think it was a really good event and a great initiative from Balder. I got goosebumps during the concert because I felt togetherness and unity between us residents. People were cheering with each other over the balconies, and there was generally a good vibe. It means a lot to me to have this experience with my neighbors." 

A helping hand to cultural life

"The yard concerts, were first at all a wish to do something extra for the residents, but we also wanted to  support Copenhagen’s cultural life, which is struggling in this period,” Flemming Joseph Jensen points out.

Athina was originally supposed to perform at SPOT Festival the night she was in the courtyard of Fælledkanten. Like many other festivals and concerts, it was canceled due to coronavirus. She is happy that Balder has asked her to sing in Fælledkanten. 

“I’m really grateful that Balder wants to support an upcoming artist like myself, which can experience some hard times in this period,” she concludes at her concert in Fælledkanten.
