Lise and her neighbors celebrate 30 Years with Østerfælled Torv

Lise Rasmussen

Lise Rasmussen has lived at Østerfælled Torv for three decades. She was among the first to move in back in 1994, and she plans to live there for the rest of her life, says the former nursery manager.

On September 1, 1994, Lise Rasmussen, seen in the picture above, moved into Østerfælled Torv in Østerbro with her daughter. The property was newly built and was owned by PBU (The Pedagogues' Pension Fund), which later sold it. In 2012, Balder bought the property and has managed it ever since. In early June, we celebrated the 30th birthday of our oldest residential property.

“I will never move from here. I moved in when the first apartments were ready, and I was fortunate to be able to choose freely among the available, newly built apartments. It ended up being a lovely 3-room apartment on the first floor with a nice balcony with view over the courtyard.”

So says Lise Rasmussen, who resides in one of our over 500 apartments at Østerfælled Torv in Østerbro. Our oldest residential property, which celebrated its 30th birthday in early June 2024.

“I have lived here for 30 years now, and I have always felt perfectly safe here on Marskensgade. I love living here. It is so wonderfully quiet, while still being close to shopping, public transportation, and lots of activity,” she continues.

Bouncy castle, live music, and dog café
The three decades had to be celebrated, of course. And they were, along with over 300 residents who gathered on a summer day in June at the main entrance to Østerfælled Torv.

Here, Balder had set up a bouncy castle for the little ones, face painting, live music, cold drinks, cake, food from the local Menu, a coffee cart, and a dog café for the four-legged residents.

“We wanted to celebrate the milestone birthday with pomp and circumstance. Therefore, we arranged Balder Meet, but spiced it up with lots of birthday celebrations. It was wonderful to see so many residents participate in the celebration – and especially to see them interact across ages and buildings,” says Tom Pedersen, who has been Balder’s customer manager at the property for the past seven years.

A good and close community
Lise Rasmussen participated in celebrating Østerfælled’s birthday. So did several of the residents who, like Lise, have lived there for all 30 years:

“There has always been a really good community in the property. Of course, it was a different time 30 years ago when the apartments were exclusively occupied by educators who knew each other well. Today, there is a different and, in many ways, also a very enriching mix of residents. It certainly has its charm with so many different age groups, nationalities, and professional backgrounds,” says Lise.

She emphasizes that the bond among those who have lived on the property since 1994 remains strong. They help each other with practical tasks and often share anecdotes from the property’s early days. Combined with a landlord who arranges community events and takes good care of the property, it is the dream place for Lise to live:

“I have nothing to complain about when it comes to Balder’s management and administration. You quickly get the help you need when something is broken, and it’s great that community-building events are organized regularly. I will never move from here.”

Balder wishes a huge congratulations to Østerfælled Torv on its 30 years – we look forward to the next 30 as owner and manager of this fantastic property.
