Meet Kvartalets Balder-nabo: Anne Creates Joyful Experiences for Hundreds of Residents in Ørestad

Anne vinder kvartalsnabo

Anne Lindfjeld has called Stævnen in Ørestad her home for 13 years. Her deep love for the area and its community shines brightly on this otherwise grey December day as we visit her in her apartment.

With passion and creativity, Anne has been a driving force behind many memorable experiences and fostering strong neighbourly bonds. It’s well-deserved that she earns the final title of 'Kvartalets Balder-nabo' this year.

Stævnen is one of the oldest buildings in Ørestad South, and Anne describes it as a place where community spirit flourishes. Here, neighbours share both big and small aspects of life.

“This is the best place to live. We look after each other, and it’s safe and pleasant here. It’s the kind of place where you can leave your key with your neighbour if you’re going on holiday,” Anne explains, adding:

“It’s a bit like living in a small village. We share everything – from eggs and sugar to taking care of each other’s plants. I’ve never experienced anything like it in other places I’ve lived.”

From Cozy Projects to Grand Events

Anne’s involvement in the community began with small initiatives. She started with Christmas crafts with her children, decorating Stævnen’s staircases with handmade Christmas hearts. It quickly evolved into larger projects, especially during the COVID-19 lockdowns, when her family painted small stones and placed them around Ørestad.

“It was so much fun to see others pick up the idea and start painting their own stones,” Anne says, explaining that her passion for creating joy for others is a key motivator:

“I love it when something I start brings smiles to people’s faces and gives both children and adults something to enjoy – especially when it’s free, as many can’t afford expensive activities.”

Halloween Ørestaden

Halloween – A Spooky Success

Anne has turned Halloween into a highlight for many in Ørestad. With help from a friend in the neighbouring 8-tallet building and support from Balderhjerte funding, she’s brought her ideas to life in spectacular fashion for two consecutive years.

“What started as a small event in the staircase quickly got out of hand,” Anne laughs.

Last year and again this year, her Halloween project drew hundreds of visitors, with queues stretching down the street.

“We never imagined it would become so big. But when you see how happy it makes people – both kids and adults – it’s all worth it,” she says.

An Experience for Everyone

Anne is determined that her events are accessible to all, regardless of financial situation.

“I’m a single mum with two kids, so I know what it’s like to be on a tight budget. That’s why it’s so important to me to create free experiences for families,” she explains.

With support from Balderhjerte funds, Anne has been able to purchase materials for both Halloween and Christmas.

“Without that support, I couldn’t do it. It makes a huge difference that Balder backs community initiatives like this,” she says.

All It Takes Is an Idea

Anne hopes her story will inspire other Balder residents to apply for support for their own projects.

“All it takes is an idea and the courage to ask others to join in. I always think, ‘What’s the worst that can happen?’ I’ve lived in many places, but I’ve never experienced a landlord so invested in supporting communities like Balder is. It makes a massive difference,” she concludes.
